High-tech football shirts to be worn by the Ghanaian football squad at the 2014 Fifa World Cup can deliver massages to players during the game, it appears.

The shirts, which were worn for the first time at Wednesday’s friendly against Montenegro, contain a special tape that provides “micro-massages” for the wearer.

The massage strips “maximise muscle power” by allowing the body to recover from exertion more quickly, the manufacturer Puma says.

This is made possible via PUMA’s new football apparel innovation PWR ACTV, a first-to-market use of both athletic taping and compression within the apparel.

Commenting on its looks rather than its hidden technology, Ghana captain and UAE-based striker Asamoah Gyan says he is impressed by the kit.

The Ghanaian national side has lined up friendly fixtures in Holland and Honduras before they face the United States in their opening game of the World Cup.
