Alhassan Wakaso
Ghanaian midfielder Alhassan Wakaso was the star man in midfield as Rio Ave run out with an impressive 3-1 victory over Portuguese giants sporting over the weekend.
The 24-year-old bombed forward at will but held on to his defensive solidity as Ave confirmed their superiority over the top Portuguese side.
Ricardo Taranti got the first goal after a wonderful build up in the middle of the park. One immediately became two with Portuguese Helda Tiago getting the second for his side.
There was a chance for Wakaso to get on the score sheet but his effort was quite week.
Gil Diaz eventually gave Ave a third before Bas Dost got a face saving goal for Sporting.
The impressive victory sends Ave to 3rd on the league table and confirms a strong start to the season for the club.
