Black Stars skipper Asamoah Gyan has congratulated the President of the Ghana Football Association (GFA), Mr Kwesi Nyantakyi, on his election to the expanded Fifa Council.

Mr Nyantakyi on Thursday September 29 polled 31 votes to come in second place during the election. CAF’s 2nd vice president Almamy Kabele Camara, scored the highest number of votes with 37, while Ahmad of Madagascar and Augustine Senghor of Senegal polled 30 and nine votes, respectively.

Africa has two slots on the expanded Fifa Council. The two new African members will hold their seats until 17 March 2017, when they face re-election at the next Confederation of African Football (CAF) congress.

The gathering of CAF's 54-member associations was called to vote the two new members in, before the new Fifa Council holds its first meeting on 13 and 14 October.

Soon after the election, Asamoah Gyan took to Twitter to say: “Congratulations to Kwesi Nyantakyi on his victory to the FIFA executive council.”
