First goal for Preko and other news from Sweden

Yaw Preko has finally scored his first goal for new club, Halmstads BK. The goal came in a pre-season training match against league counterparts Kalmar FF at home. The match ended 1-1 with Preko scoring in the 49th minute with a header and Kalmar equalising in the 51st minute. Preko was substituted in the 69th minute by Olle Kullinger.

This is what the Halmstad coach, Jan Andersson had to say about Preko: " Yaw has shown that we can count on him. He gets better and better even though the weather nor pitch conditions are his favourites. He seems more comfortable and natural on the ball now.

Pre-season training matches have so far been played on astroturfs and sandy gravel pitches because of the Swedish winter, conditions Preko is not used to.

Halmstads leave for a two-week training camp in La manga (Spain) tomorrow, to get away from the cold Swedish winter and matches on sandy-gravel pitches and astroturfs.

As Preko put it, with a smile: "It's now going to be fun playing real football away from this mudpool. Almost everything here has been a new experience and the ball reacts differently on astroturfs and sandy pitches".

AIK (with Derek Boateng and Kwame Quansah) will also be going to La Manga on a pre-season training camp. Kwame Quansah has played in all training matches but Derek is nursing a knee ligament injury which prevented him from playing with the Black Meteors against Algeria.
