Upper East Under-12 Soccer Champions Feted

Bolgatanga, April 17, GNA - Mr. Nicholas Nayembil, Acting Bolgatanga Municipal Director of Education has commended the Municipal under-12 basic soccer champions for emerging champions and uplifting the name of the Municipality.

He made the commendation at a party organized by the Municipal Assembly for the team for placing first out of the six districts that participated in the Region's under-12 basic schools soccer competition. Mr. Nayembil who is also the Presiding Member of the Municipal Assembly promised to use his good offices to motivate the team to win the cup at the Inter-Regions school soccer tournament scheduled for Kumasi.

He noted that with Municipality earmarked to host the basic schools sports festival later this year, there was the urgent need to unearth more talents in the various disciplines and called on private companies, Non-governmental Organizations and individuals to help promote sports through donations.

He said the annual 3,000 cedis sports levy paid by each pupil was not enough to promote sports development and called for a review of the amount with the various stakeholders.

Mr. John Akaribo, Assemblyman for Nyariga-Doone electoral area entreated the Regional and Municipal Physical Education Organizers to endeavour to raise a senior soccer team for the region to befit its status.

Mr. Akaribo urged the young players to train hard to bring more laurels to the Municipality and the Region. The Bolgatanga Municipality emerged champions during the inter-districts under-12 soccer tournament for basic schools held in Navrongo last month.
