Retired women footballers call for support

The Retired Women National Footballers Association of Ghana (RWONFAG), has called on the media and corporate bodies to come to their aid and support their cause as they look to improve the lives of retired and active footballers.

RWONFAG which was launched on Wednesday 31 October at the Ghana League Clubs Association (GHALCA) Secretariat at the Accra Sports Stadium, had numerous of the retired women footballers converging together to officially outdoor the association.

President of the Association, Madam Mercy Tagoe-Quarcoo, who is on duty as the assistant head coach of the Black Queens was absent at the launch today. General Secretary, Anita Wiredu stood in for the former Blacks Stars defender together with Black Queens Legend Adwoa Bayor. Former Kotoko player and African Footballer of the year Alhaji Ibrahim was the special guest at the function.

Addressing the gathering, former Black Queens player Anita Wiredu Mintah stated that the task of the association is huge and they will need the help of the general public to succeed.

“You will agree with me that this task is enormous and we cannot do it alone. RWONFAG will like to seek the support of the media, corporate bodies, Philanthropists, Universities and the Ghanaian society as a whole to put Women’s football to the highest possible level”, she said.

She added “In as much as we will like to use every aspect of Women’s football in Ghana to progress positively by contributing our quota to retired footballers, we will like to seek your support. From the media we will humbly ask that you follow our activities closely, publicise it through your medium whiles helping to sell our ideas to corporate Ghana for financial support”.

She further indicated that RWONFAG is poised to give career counselling and guidance to young players in the career they have chosen as footballers. Not only that they want to assist young players to invest in their retirement.
