Playing in front of a packed and noisy stadium in the heart of West Africa has always been a daunting task for teams coming from South Africa and Amajimbos did not do much to change that fact.

The high-flying South African juniors were finally brought down to earth, after a 2-1 semifinal loss to Gambia in the African Under-17 Championships in Banjul on Tuesday night. This was Amajimbos first defeat in the championships

The Amajimbos settled down quickly and in the 18th minute, skilful Michael Nkambule made his presence felt once again. He made a good run down the right flank, laid on a perfect pass to Amos Sibeko and his first time volley kissed the back of the net and the stadium went quiet.

The defensive ploy adopted by Amajimbos did not last long in the second half as Gambia poured on the pressure.

They equalised three minutes into the second half as Nyassi took full advantage of a misunderstanding between Bandile Kiviet and Mabokgwane to easily slot the ball into an empty net.

The Scorpions, seeing that Amajimbos had been shell- shocked, were rewarded on 50 minutes, this time Momodou Ceesay beat Mabokgwane to make it 2-1.
