A court in Kaduna ordered a 21-year-old scavenger Ibrahim Usman to receive eight strokes of the cane for stealing a goat. The convict, who admitted committing the crime, pleaded with the court to deliver justice, saying he had been deceived by his friends.
Justice Ibrahim Emmanuel said the court was lenient to the accused because he wasted no time in pleading guilty. Emmanuel ordered that Usman be given eight lashes and warned him to refrain from committing crimes in the future, adding that the court might not be so lenient the next time he appears before it.
First, the prosecutor, Inspector Çidi Leo, told the court that the convict committed the crime on October 1, 2024 in Ungwan Rimi Kaduna.
According to Leo, the convict, who was arrested by members of the vigilante group with the goat on Ali Akilu Street in Kaduna, could not give a satisfactory explanation of how he got it.
He said the convict admitted to stealing his neighbor's goat when he was taken to the police station for questioning.
