The Bono Regional Chairman of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), Kwame Baffoe, widely known as Abronye DC, has been arrested by the Criminal Investigations Department (CID) of the Ghana Police Service.
He was picked up on Monday, April 13, 2026, as part of ongoing investigations into alleged offences including offensive conduct, false publication, and statements said to have the potential to incite fear and panic among the public.
Although authorities are yet to formally announce specific charges, sources indicate that the arrest could be connected to alleged remarks involving threats directed at a judge at the Adentan Circuit Court. The situation has raised concerns within both legal and governance circles.
Officials of the NPP say they are still working to understand the full details surrounding his detention. Speaking to Joy News, the party’s Deputy General Secretary, Haruna Mohammed, stated that while they are aware Abronye DC is currently at the Police CID Headquarters, the exact reasons for his arrest have not yet been clearly communicated.
The incident has triggered varied reactions from the public. While some supporters argue that Abronye DC is simply being targeted for his outspoken nature, others believe his comments frequently exceed acceptable public discourse.
This is not the first time the NPP regional chairman has faced scrutiny from law enforcement. In September 2025, he was similarly detained over remarks that drew public attention and concern.
Investigations are ongoing, and the Police CID is expected to provide further updates in due course as Abronye DC remains in custody.
