Ghana’s Finance Minister, Cassiel Ato Forson, has represented President John Dramani Mahama at the historic inauguration of Benin’s newly sworn-in President, Romuald Wadagni.

The ceremony took place in Cotonou and brought together high-level government officials, heads of state, and dignitaries from across Africa and beyond to witness the formal swearing-in of President Wadagni.

President Wadagni, who previously served as Benin’s Finance Minister for a decade, officially began his first seven-year term in office after succeeding former President Patrice Talon. He has been widely recognised for his role in steering key economic reforms during his tenure as finance minister.

Following the ceremony, Dr Ato Forson described the event as historic and conveyed his congratulations to the new leader in a post on social media.

“Congratulations to the newly inaugurated President of the Republic of Benin, H.E. Romuald Wadagni. It was a privilege to represent President Mahama at this historic inauguration ceremony in Cotonou,” he stated.

The inauguration marks a significant political transition in Benin, with observers noting the broad international participation as a sign of the country’s diplomatic importance in the region.
