An Adenta Circuit Court has sentenced 22-year-old motor mechanic and Bolt driver Emmanuel Kofi Mensah to 25 years’ imprisonment in hard labour for robbing a beautician.
Mensah pleaded guilty to the charge of robbery and was convicted on his own plea by the court, presided over by Mrs Angela Attachie.
The prosecution, led by Chief Inspector Maxwell Lanyo, told the court that Mensah attacked the complainant, **Yvonne Dzane Dzifa**, after she hired his Bolt service from Madina Zongo Junction to Adenta on September 23, 2026.
According to the prosecution, when they arrived at Adenta Barrier at about 10:00 p.m., Dzifa asked Mensah to stop so she could alight. Instead, he allegedly locked the vehicle’s doors and drove towards the Adenta-Dodowa road.
Mensah subsequently drove to Mantey Farms, where he stopped and allegedly demanded Dzifa’s handbag and other belongings.
The prosecution said Mensah pulled out a cutlass from the vehicle after Dzifa resisted and threatened her with it. He allegedly pulled her from the vehicle and repeatedly struck her with the cutlass during a struggle.
Mensah eventually slashed Dzifa’s left wrist and little finger and took her handbag, which contained an iPhone 17 Pro Max valued at GH¢18,000, an iPhone 12 valued at GH¢3,500, GH¢3,200 in cash and other personal belongings.
The prosecution said Mensah later called an accomplice, who arrived on a motorbike. Dzifa managed to take a backpack from the front seat of the vehicle and fled into a nearby bush.
She eventually climbed over the fence of a nearby house and remained there until the following morning, when the landlord alerted the Police.
Dzifa was rescued and taken for medical treatment at Pantang Government Hospital after sustaining a deep cutlass wound to her wrist and little finger, as well as bruises to her body.
Mensah was arrested the following day after allegedly taking the iPhone 17 Pro Max to an Apple shop at Madina Zongo Junction to sell it. The shop owner reportedly recognised Dzifa’s picture on the phone and suspected it had been stolen.
Police subsequently arrested Mensah. A search allegedly uncovered the cutlass used in the attack concealed in his shorts.
Mensah admitted the offence in his caution statement and pleaded for forgiveness.
The prosecution said Mensah had claimed that the Bolt vehicle belonged to a Nigerian friend but had failed to identify the friend or the other accomplice. Efforts are ongoing to identify and arrest the alleged accomplices.
