Certificates from Some Ghanaian Universities Now in Doubt After GTEC Decision

The Ghana Tertiary Education Commission (GTEC), on Monday, June 1, 2026, announced that it no longer recognises several domestic and international universities.

In a statement issued on Monday, the Commission indicated that it no longer recognises the universities due to “various quality assurance concerns.”

It, therefore, urged the general public to be wary of certificates awarded by the universities.

The universities, which number 70, include both domestic and international tertiary institutions.

The majority of the affected universities are from the United States, followed by Ghana, Nigeria, India, and the United Kingdom.
