The Chief of Staff at the Office of the President, Julius Debrah, has called for a decisive transformation of Ghana’s economic structure, urging a move away from commerce toward production and innovation.
Speaking at the Kwahu Business Forum on Friday, April 3, Mr Debrah emphasised the need for a deliberate national focus on industrialisation, value addition, and enterprise development as key drivers of sustainable economic growth.
He challenged business leaders, policymakers, and investors to take bold and coordinated action in repositioning the country’s economy.
“This is our time, not merely to discuss Ghana’s economic destiny, but to build it… our time to move from an economy known mainly for commerce into one respected for production, transformation and competitive strength,” he stated.
Mr Debrah highlighted the importance of strong collaboration between government and the private sector, noting that such partnerships are essential to accelerating industrial growth and expanding employment opportunities.
According to him, Ghana’s long-term economic success will depend on its ability to translate potential into tangible outcomes, including the establishment of factories, increased exports, and the promotion of innovation.
“Let business lead with courage, let government support with clarity, let capital move with confidence,” he added, reinforcing the need for a unified approach to national development.
He also underscored the role of mentorship and leadership continuity in strengthening the private sector, stressing that a resilient and forward-looking business community is crucial to driving lasting economic transformation.
The remarks come at a time when Ghana continues to explore strategies to diversify its economy and reduce dependence on trade, with increasing attention on manufacturing and value-added production.
