Highlife star Kwaisey Pee has initiated legal proceedings against the organisers of the Ghana Music Awards Europe, accusing them of violating a performance agreement ahead of this year’s ceremony.

In an interview with Nana Romeo on OKAY FM on 2 November 2025, the veteran musician recounted how an initially smooth arrangement to perform at the event suddenly turned sour. He said the organisers approached him weeks earlier to appear on the awards night, and both sides concluded what he described as a straightforward agreement. But as preparations intensified, all communication from the organisers reportedly went silent.

According to him, key commitments such as flight arrangements, accommodation, and an advance payment were left hanging, with no explanation.

“They contacted me to perform and everything was agreed on. But as the event drew closer, there was no update on the ticket, no advance, nothing,” he stated.

Kwaisey Pee revealed that it was only after his team reached out three days before the show that the organisers informed them they were no longer interested in working with him. What upset him even more, he said, was that promotional materials for the upcoming awards still carried his image, despite the sudden withdrawal.

He described the situation as an affront to his brand, insisting the continued use of his image amounted to deliberate exploitation.

“They didn’t notify me properly, yet they continued using my picture on their flyers. That is very disrespectful and clearly an attempt to benefit from my name,” he said.

The singer confirmed that his management has already served the organisers with legal documents, giving them 14 days to formally respond or face further action.

“We have issued them the necessary documents and they’ve received them. If they fail to address the matter within the given period, we will take the next steps,” he added.

The organisers of the Ghana Music Awards Europe are yet to comment publicly on the allegations.
