The Toase District Court in the Atwima Nwabiagya South Municipality has remanded two men, Solomon Arthur and Samuel Awotwe, into police custody over the alleged theft of a high-value excavator component.
The accused, an excavator operator and his apprentice, are suspected of stealing a control board from a machine entrusted to them. The court did not take their pleas and directed that they remain in custody until their next appearance on April 14, 2026.
Presenting the facts, Assistant Superintendent of Police Frank Acheampong told the court that the complainant, Rockson Teyeh, a mechanic based at Atwima Twedie, had handed over his excavator to the accused in May 2025 for operational purposes.
According to the prosecution, the machine was later hired by a third party earlier this year. On March 20, 2026, Arthur reportedly informed the complainant that the excavator had developed a fault, prompting arrangements for repairs.
However, instead of personally granting access to the machine, Arthur allegedly instructed his apprentice, Awotwe, to open it for the mechanic.
The following day, when the mechanic arrived at the site with the apprentice, he discovered that the excavator’s control board, valued at GH¢300,000, was missing. He immediately raised the alarm.
Further inspection revealed no signs of forced entry or external damage to the machine. This, the prosecution noted, led to suspicion that the missing component may have been removed by someone with access to the excavator’s key.
The matter was subsequently reported to the complainant, leading to the arrest of the two accused persons.
The court, presided over by Mr. Robert Addo, adjourned the case to allow for further investigations.
