The Driver and Vehicle Licensing Authority (DVLA) has extended the validity of all existing DV and DP vehicle registrations following the suspension of the new number plate rollout, DVLA Chief Executive Officer Julius Neequaye Kotey has announced.

According to Mr. Kotey, all DV number plates remain valid, while DP registrations have transitioned from physical plates to stickers. He emphasized that motorists currently using DV plates or DP stickers can continue to do so until a new rollout date is officially announced.

However, he cautioned that new vehicle owners who choose to register their vehicles ahead of the new number plate introduction will be required to re-register once the new system takes effect.

Addressing a lawsuit filed by the Vehicle Embossment Association over concerns surrounding the number plate embossment contract, Mr. Kotey dismissed claims that any contract had been canceled or awarded.

“I have not canceled or signed any new contracts related to number plates since assuming office,” he stated, adding that the DVLA is prepared to meet the association in court to resolve the matter.

Mr. Kotey reaffirmed the Authority’s commitment to transparency and due process in the management of vehicle registration and number plate production.
