Adjetey Isaac Noi, Branch Manager of Oyibi Area Community Bank PLC, has appeared before the Adenta Circuit Court for allegedly stealing GH¢1 million from the bank.

The 28-year-old banker has been charged with stealing and has pleaded not guilty to the charge.

The prosecution told the court that the alleged offence occurred between March and September 2025, when Noi allegedly reactivated a dormant customer account and used it as a transit account to transfer funds to accounts held at various banks.

According to Chief Inspector Maxwell Lanyo, the complainant in the case is the Head of Audit and Inspection at ARB Apex Bank PLC, while the accused was the Branch Manager of Oyibi Area Community Bank PLC.

The prosecution said an audit and inspection team visited the Oyibi branch on September 28, 2026, following intelligence that fraudulent transactions were being carried out at the branch.

During the exercise, the auditors allegedly detected a transfer of GH¢1 million from an internal account of the bank into an account held in the name of Nii Adjei Sowatey at Oyibi Area Community Bank PLC.

The audit team reportedly informed the bank’s head office, which directed the complainant to lodge an official complaint with the police.

Noi was subsequently arrested but allegedly failed to provide a satisfactory explanation for the transfer during police interrogation.

Investigations, the court heard, revealed that the accused allegedly reactivated the dormant account without the account holder’s consent and used it to channel the funds to various accounts in other banks.

Presiding over the case, Mrs Angela Attachie granted Noi bail in the sum of GH¢1 million with two sureties, who are required to justify the bail with landed property.

Defence counsel argued that the accused was not a flight risk because he has a fixed place of abode at Dodowa in the Greater Accra Region.

The case has been adjourned to February 17, 2026
