The Ghana Bloggers Association (GBA) has taken note of the arrest and detention of blogger Samuel Amadotor, following allegations of publishing false information about Mr. Okatakye Boakye Danquah Ababio I through his blog/publication.

As an association committed to promoting ethical, credible, and responsible online journalism, we wish to state the following:

1. The GBA does not condone the deliberate publication of false or malicious information about any individual, institution, or group. Such acts undermine public trust, damage reputations, and weaken the credibility of the digital media landscape.

2. We commend the Ghana Police Service for following due process in handling complaints of misinformation. We encourage all parties to allow investigations to proceed without interference. Anyone found culpable must face the law in accordance with the Constitution and relevant statutes.

3. While we support lawful enforcement actions, we also encourage ongoing engagement between the Police and media stakeholders to ensure that measures to curb misinformation do not infringe on freedom of expression or legitimate journalistic activity.

4. The GBA urges all bloggers, influencers, and online publishers to verify information before publication and adhere strictly to ethical standards governing digital media practice.

5. Moving forward, the Association will intensify training programs on fact-checking, digital ethics, content responsibility, and professional standards to minimize misinformation and protect the integrity of the profession.

6. The Ghana Bloggers Association condemns the reported 3-night detention of blogger Samuel Amadotor, who remains presumed innocent until proven guilty. We respectfully urge the Ghana Police Service to ensure that all procedures strictly comply with constitutional safeguards, including the rights of suspects to fair treatment, timely processing, and protection from unnecessary or prolonged pre-trial detention.

The Ghana Bloggers Association remains committed to promoting a safe, ethical, and responsible digital media environment while advocating for the rights, dignity, and fair treatment of all individuals within the media space.
