In a statement released to mark the occasion, the Association highlighted the critical role media practitioners play in informing, educating, and empowering society. It paid tribute to the courage and dedication of individuals who continue to work under challenging conditions to ensure the free flow of information.
The Association noted that in today’s digital age, bloggers and online content creators are increasingly shaping public discourse. It stressed that these voices are essential in promoting transparency, accountability, and truth across society.
Reaffirming its commitment to ethical standards, the Ghana Bloggers Association pledged to uphold responsible storytelling and protect freedom of expression both online and offline.
The statement also called on key stakeholders, including government, institutions, and citizens, to actively support and defend media freedom. It urged authorities to ensure the safety of journalists and bloggers while creating an environment where diverse opinions can be expressed without fear.
“As we mark this important day, we must continue to stand for truth, amplify voices, and defend the right to information for all,” the statement concluded.
World Press Freedom Day is observed annually to celebrate the principles of press freedom and to evaluate the state of media independence worldwide.
