Ghana Secures 1,000 Advance Tickets for 2026 FIFA World Cup Fans

Ghana has secured 1,000 advance tickets for supporters of the Black Stars ahead of the 2026 FIFA World Cup, in a strategic move to cushion fans against what is expected to be one of the most expensive tournaments in history.

The Minister for Sports and Recreation, Kofi Iddie Adams, disclosed the development during an interview on Citi Eyewitness News on Monday, June 1. He explained that the early acquisition of tickets was crucial due to the rising costs associated with the global football showpiece.

According to the Minister, the 2026 World Cup, which will be hosted across three countries — the United States, Canada, and Mexico — presents unique logistical and financial challenges for Ghanaian supporters.

“It is really nightmarish and a difficult one. This is the first time we are trying that. For us as a country, this is the first time we are playing a World Cup in that zone,” he said.

Mr. Adams noted that Ghana’s absence from the 1994 World Cup in the United States means the country lacks prior experience in organizing supporter participation for a tournament in North America.

He emphasized that taking advantage of FIFA’s advance ticket sales was a timely and strategic decision that has helped Ghana avoid significantly higher costs.

“Luckily for us, we managed and planned very well and effectively. We ordered for 1,000. I believe that that is what has saved the situation because if we were waiting till now, it would have cost us huge sums of money to even get those number of tickets,” he stated.

The Minister clarified that the 1,000 tickets form only part of a broader effort to ensure strong Ghanaian representation at the tournament. The Ghana Football Association, along with other organizations, has also secured additional tickets to support fans.

“I wouldn’t say only a thousand. The FA itself has secured some tickets. We have other organisations that also have secured tickets. They are all sponsoring Ghanaians to be able to get in there,” he added.

Mr. Adams expressed confidence that the combined efforts of government agencies and private organizations will ensure that a significant number of Ghanaian supporters are present to cheer on the Black Stars.

His remarks follow an earlier announcement by President John Dramani Mahama that the government would provide match tickets for Ghanaians living abroad to support the national team during the tournament.

While acknowledging the high cost of travel, the President indicated that priority would be given to Ghanaian communities in host cities, enabling them to attend matches and rally behind the Black Stars.

Ghana is set to compete in Group L of the tournament, where they will face Panama, England, and Croatia in what promises to be a highly competitive group.

The 2026 FIFA World Cup is expected to be one of the largest and most logistically complex editions in the tournament’s history, making early preparation critical for participating nations and their supporters.
