The Member of Parliament for Hohoe, Thomas Worlanyo Tsekpo, has appealed to individuals, businesses, organisations and development partners to provide additional assistance to residents displaced by flooding in the municipality.

The appeal follows preliminary data from the National Disaster Management Organisation (NADMO), which indicates that about 5,140 people have been displaced and 412 houses affected across 11 communities.

Some buildings and other structures have also been completely destroyed by floodwaters, with Hohoe Zongo identified among the worst-affected areas.

In a public update issued on Thursday, October 1, 2026, Mr Tsekpo said relief assistance had been provided through his office, the Hohoe Municipal Assembly, NADMO, individuals and organisations.

The items distributed include mattresses, blankets, rice, tinned fish, cooking oil and other essential household supplies.

Initial relief distribution has covered Gbi Kledjo, Atabu, Kpoeta and parts of Hohoe Zongo, with further distribution planned for other affected communities based on verified data from NADMO.

“Given the scale of the disaster, however, the assistance received so far remains insufficient, and additional support is urgently required,” Mr Tsekpo said.

He called on civil society organisations, benevolent institutions and other stakeholders to support affected families with relief items, financial assistance and other forms of aid.

The MP said a Relief Distribution Committee comprising Assembly Members and other stakeholders had been established to supervise the allocation of relief supplies and ensure that assistance was distributed according to the verified needs of affected households.

Meanwhile, emergency response teams and security agencies have been mobilised to evacuate residents from high-risk locations and relocate displaced persons.

Some residents are being accommodated in available facilities, including classrooms, as the Social Welfare Department and other stakeholders work to identify additional temporary shelters.

Mr Tsekpo said his office was collaborating with the Municipal Assembly, NADMO, security agencies, health authorities, traditional authorities and other stakeholders to support affected residents during the emergency response and subsequent recovery and reconstruction efforts.

The appeal comes as residents in some areas begin returning home following a gradual recession of floodwaters. Authorities have, however, advised residents not to re-enter buildings until they have been assessed and declared safe.
