Ghanaian actress and filmmaker Juliet Ibrahim has spoken publicly about experiencing sexual and emotional abuse in a past relationship, revealing that a former partner Ex-Husband Kwadwo Safo Jnr allegedly forced himself on her despite her repeated refusal.
In an interview on the WithChude YouTube channel, Ibrahim described incidents in which she said “no” but was ignored.
“I kept saying, ‘No, stop it.’ You pinned me down… and you’re smiling while I’m crying. That means you’re a rapist,” she recounted.
According to the actress, the abuse went beyond sexual violence. She alleged that she was at times isolated and locked inside her partner’s home for days until her sister intervened.
“I had to fight my way out of that relationship,” she said, explaining that she initially struggled to process what was happening and did not know who to confide in.
Although Ibrahim did not name the individual involved, her revelations have drawn attention because they come years after her divorce from her ex-husband, Kwadwo Safo Jnr.
Ibrahim married Safo Jnr. in 2010 and officially announced their divorce on June 23, 2014. At the time, she requested privacy and did not publicly disclose the reasons for the separation, stating that she wanted to protect their son.
Following her recent interview, some netizens began speculating online about whether her comments were connected to her former marriage. However, Ibrahim did not identify any individual in her account.
The actress used the opportunity to encourage women experiencing similar situations, including marital rape, to report incidents to authorities.
“If your husband is forcing you to do something when you’re not in the mood, it is rape,” she stated. “You cannot force a woman.”
Her comments have since sparked renewed conversation about consent, marital rape, and the importance of speaking out against abuse.
