Minority Demands Refund of GH¢113 Million From Failed Security Recruitment Applicants

The Minority in Parliament has called on the Ministry of the Interior to refund approximately GH¢113 million collected from applicants who failed to qualify in the ongoing security services recruitment exercise.

The demand follows disclosures by Interior Minister Mubarak Mohammed Muntaka that nearly 500,000 individuals applied for positions in the security services, although only about 5,000 slots are available for final enlistment.

According to the Minister, about 105,000 applicants progressed to the medical screening stage after the initial selection process.

However, members of the Minority argue that the large number of unsuccessful applicants means the government has collected huge sums of money from hopeful candidates who will not gain employment through the exercise.

They are therefore urging the Ministry to refund the estimated GH¢113 million to applicants who did not make it through the recruitment process.

The Minority insists that returning the funds would demonstrate fairness and transparency in the recruitment process while easing the financial burden on thousands of young Ghanaians who applied.

The issue has since sparked debate over the cost of recruitment into Ghana’s security services and the need for reforms to ensure a more equitable process for job seekers.
