The Communication Directorate of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) has suspended Mr. Daniel Nortey from all media appearances and public engagements on behalf of the party, effective immediately and until further notice, following remarks he made during a televised discussion on allegations of sexual abuse against the Headmaster of Obuasi Senior High Technical School.

In a statement, the Directorate expressed serious concern and displeasure over Mr. Nortey’s comments, stressing that allegations of sexual abuse must be treated with the utmost seriousness, particularly when they involve the safety, dignity and welfare of children.

The party reaffirmed its zero-tolerance stance on sexual abuse and all forms of sexual exploitation, condemning remarks that trivialise such allegations or undermine their gravity.

The Directorate also acknowledged Mr. Nortey’s unreserved apology for his comments but emphasised the need for responsible public commentary, especially on sensitive issues involving alleged sexual abuse.

According to the party, discussions surrounding such allegations must be guided by responsibility, sensitivity and respect for due process, rather than being reduced to partisan debate or treated lightly.

The NDC further reiterated its commitment to protecting women and children, promoting accountability and ensuring that allegations of sexual abuse are handled in accordance with the law and with the seriousness they deserve.

The suspension takes immediate effect and will remain in force until further notice.
