The New Patriotic Party (NPP) Constituency Chairman for Bosome Freho in the Ashanti Region, Patrick Kwaku Frimpong, has reportedly been arrested by the Ghana Police Service over an alleged incident involving a ballot paper during the party’s National Delegates Conference.
According to information available to Channel One News, the incident occurred after a delegate from the constituency reportedly encountered difficulties with the electoral system and was unable to cast a ballot.
The Ashanti Regional Secretary of the NPP, Dr Francis Adomako, had reportedly earlier written to the constituency, barring the delegate from participating in Saturday’s election.
However, following the difficulties encountered with the electoral system, the Electoral Commission (EC) reportedly provided the delegate with a ballot paper to enable the individual to vote.
Frimpong is alleged to have taken the ballot paper and torn it apart, an incident that reportedly prompted his arrest by the police for questioning.
Further details regarding the circumstances surrounding the incident and any possible charges against the constituency chairman were not provided in the available information.
