Veteran actor Pete Edochie has urged Africans to preserve what he described as enduring values in marriage while rejecting violence against women.
Speaking about his 57-year marriage, Edochie said the success of a long-lasting relationship depends on how couples manage disagreements, insisting that physical assault should never be part of marriage.
The actor argued that couples can overcome conflicts through communication, self-reflection and forgiveness.
He also questioned the tendency of Africans to copy every aspect of Western culture, particularly in matters concerning marriage and family life.
“It’s not everything that the white man does that we must try to emulate,” he said, arguing that African marriages can endure challenges for significantly longer periods.
Edochie’s comments come amid renewed discussions about domestic abuse, following the circulation of videos allegedly showing domestic violence involving actress Nana Akua Addo.
The actor’s position has added his voice to broader conversations about the need to address domestic violence and promote healthier approaches to resolving conflicts within relationships.
