The Chief Executive Officer of GoldBod, Sammy Gyamfi, has strongly criticised an investigative report by The Fourth Estate, describing it as misleading and lacking evidence.
In a statement shared on social media, Gyamfi argued that the National Democratic Congress (NDC) has never opposed sole-sourcing outright but has consistently spoken against its misuse.
“In opposition, the NDC never said sole-sourcing was a sin or unlawful. We only preached against the unjustified use and abuse of sole-sourcing,” he stated.
He explained that the use of sole-sourcing for projects under the government’s Big Push agenda was justified due to urgency, adding that all contracts received prior approval from the Public Procurement Authority (PPA).
According to him, resorting to competitive tendering would have significantly delayed critical road projects, potentially pushing completion timelines beyond 2028.
Gyamfi further emphasised that due diligence processes, including value-for-money audits, were conducted and that contracts were awarded to multiple competent contractors—not a select few.
He also dismissed claims of inflated costs, stating that the Fourth Estate report failed to present any concrete evidence of wrongdoing or breaches of procurement laws.
Additionally, he noted that 23 out of the 84 projects cited were inherited from the previous administration and were not newly awarded contracts, accusing the media outlet of misrepresenting facts.
