A disturbing incident involving four male staff of Bills Micro Credit has sparked public outrage after they were captured on camera allegedly assaulting a 36-year-old woman who had defaulted on a GH₵300 loan.

The debt collectors stormed the woman’s home in a branded company vehicle in an attempt to retrieve the money. The situation quickly escalated when the men  seized the woman’s mobile phone and physically dragged her to the ground, despite the fact that she was carrying a baby at the time.

The shocking footage, which has since begun circulating online, shows the woman struggling as the men forcefully handled her during the confrontation.

Many members of the public have condemned the actions of the staff, describing the conduct as inhumane, unprofessional, and a clear abuse of power.

Critics say no financial institution should resort to intimidation or violence when dealing with customers who default on loans, particularly over such a relatively small amount. The incident has reignited concerns about the aggressive tactics sometimes used by some microcredit companies in debt recovery.

As of the time of filing this report, Bills Micro Credit had not publicly responded to the incident. However, many Ghanaians are demanding answers and urging regulators to take a closer look at the company’s debt collection practices.
