A student of the University of Media Arts and Communication (UniMAC) has died after being struck by an unregistered vehicle while crossing the Dzorwulu traffic light intersection in Accra.

The deceased, identified as Nelson, was knocked down near the traffic lights close to the footbridge leading toward Lapaz on Tuesday afternoon. University records from Academic Affairs and eyewitness accounts indicate that the incident occurred between 4:00 p.m. and 6:00 p.m., shortly after the student had visited campus and was returning home.

Information confirmed by the University’s Head of Security, the Ghana Police Service, eyewitnesses, and the family revealed that the driver initially stopped and pretended to assist the victim but later abandoned him at the scene.

Nelson’s body was subsequently discovered by a police patrol team in the Korle Bu area, hours after the accident.

The university issued clarification following conflicting social media reports and earlier publications that contained inaccuracies. UniMAC authorities and student leaders say the verified account was established after consultations with security officials and the police.

The tragic incident has thrown the UniMAC community into mourning, renewing calls for improved road safety measures around the Dzorwulu intersection.
