Ghanaian musician and outspoken human rights advocate Wanlov the Kubolor has welcomed recent comments by President John Dramani Mahama indicating that the controversial Proper Human Sexual Rights and Family Values Bill is no longer a priority for his administration.
Speaking during an interview on March 31, 2026, Mahama emphasized that his government is currently focused on addressing the pressing economic and social needs of Ghanaians, effectively pushing the widely debated anti-LGBTQ+ legislation to the back burner.
Reacting to the development in a post on X (formerly Twitter), Wanlov described the shift as “good news,” while sharply criticizing supporters of the bill. He suggested that the government’s new stance may be influenced by Ghana’s international commitments, particularly agreements with the European Union, which upholds protections for LGBTQ+ communities.
“You think you can sign a defence contract with the EU which protects its queer community and freely attack the queer community in Ghana? Siato,” he wrote.
Wanlov has been a consistent critic of the bill since its introduction in 2021, using his platform to campaign against what he describes as a violation of fundamental human rights. His latest reaction adds to the ongoing national conversation surrounding the bill and Ghana’s stance on LGBTQ+ issues.
