At least eleven people have been injured following a road accident on the Cape Coast–Takoradi Highway in Ghana’s Central Region on Wednesday, March 5, 2026.

The accident occurred at Eduadjei when two vehicles — an Opel Astra saloon car and a Nissan mini bus — collided head-on on the busy highway. According to reports from the Ghana National Fire Service (GNFS), the Opel Astra with registration number WR 4860-13 was travelling from Cape Coast toward Komenda, while the Nissan mini bus, registered CR 1414-23, was heading in the opposite direction toward Cape Coast.

The collision happened at about 7:15 p.m., prompting an emergency response from personnel of the Komenda Fire Station. By the time firefighters arrived at the scene, several passengers had already been rescued by members of the public who rushed to assist.

Ten passengers who were travelling in the Nissan mini bus — comprising eight men and two women — were quickly transported to the Elmina Polyclinic for medical treatment. Meanwhile, firefighters had to carefully extricate the driver of the Opel Astra who was trapped in the wreckage of the vehicle. He was later handed over to the National Ambulance Service and also conveyed to the same health facility for treatment.

Officials confirmed that all eleven victims sustained varying degrees of injuries, but no deaths were recorded in the crash.

After the rescue operation, the fire service team cleared debris from the road to restore the free flow of traffic and ensure safety for motorists using the highway. Authorities say investigations are ongoing to determine the exact cause of the accident.

The Cape Coast–Takoradi Highway remains one of the busiest roads in the Central Region, and the latest incident has once again raised concerns about road safety and the need for careful driving on the stretch.
