Ghana head coach Carlos Queiroz has officially named his final 26-man squad for the 2026 FIFA World Cup, bringing an end to weeks of anticipation as the Black Stars prepare for football’s biggest tournament.

The Portuguese tactician finalized his selection after an intensive training camp in Cardiff, where players battled for places in the squad ahead of the tournament in the United States, Canada and Mexico. The final cut saw goalkeeper Solomon Agbasi and striker Paul Reverson miss out on the traveling party after being included in the provisional 28-man squad.

Queiroz was also forced into a late defensive reshuffle following an injury setback to experienced centre-back Alexander Djiku. The defender was ruled out of the World Cup after suffering an injury with his club, prompting the technical team to hand Derrick Luckassen an opportunity to join the squad.

The final list reflects Queiroz’s desire to strike a balance between experience and youthful energy as Ghana seek to make a strong impact at their fifth FIFA World Cup appearance. In goal, Lawrence Ati-Zigi is expected to provide leadership and experience alongside Joseph Anang and Benjamin Asare.

The defensive unit features a blend of established internationals and versatile options, including Gideon Mensah, Alidu Seidu, Baba Abdul Rahman and Derrick Luckassen. Their role will be crucial as Ghana prepare to face some of the strongest attacking sides in the competition.

In midfield, much of Ghana’s hopes will rest on the shoulders of Thomas Partey, whose experience at the highest level is expected to provide stability and leadership. He is joined by talented youngsters and emerging stars, including Abdul Fatawu Issahaku, who continues to develop into one of the country's most exciting players.

The attack is spearheaded by captain Jordan Ayew and inform Man City forward Antoine Semenyo, with the pair expected to play key roles in Ghana’s quest for success. Their experience, pace and quality in the final third will be vital as the Black Stars look to navigate a challenging group-stage campaign.

With the squad now confirmed, attention turns to the tournament itself. Expectations are growing among supporters, and Queiroz will be hoping his carefully selected group can rise to the occasion and lead Ghana beyond the group stage for the first time since 2010.

The announcement marks the beginning of the final countdown to the World Cup, with the Black Stars determined to make the nation proud on football’s grandest stage.
