The Deputy Chief Executive in charge of the Food Division at the Food and Drugs Authority (FDA), Mr. Roderick Kwabena Daddey-Adjei, has dismissed claims that some food vendors use plastics to fry plantain. Reacting to recent trending discussions suggesting that sellers, particularly those dealing in plantain chips, use rubber or chemicals in their preparation, Mr. Daddey-Adjei described the allegations as completely untrue. He stressed that there is no evidence to support such claims.
Speaking on Ghana Yensom with host Chief Jerry Forson, Mr. Daddey-Adjei assured the public that the FDA continues to monitor food safety standards to protect consumers. He noted that while the Authority takes reports of food contamination seriously, the assertion that plastics are used in frying plantain is false and misleading.
He further reminded traders to comply with food safety regulations, emphasizing that selling tomatoes directly on tables without proper conditions is against the law. According to him, such practices expose food items to contamination and pose health risks to the public.
