
President John Dramani Mahama has nominated five individuals for appointment as members of Fiscal Council, in line with the Public Financial Management (Amendment) Act, 2025 (Act 1136).

The nominations were announced in a statement signed by the Minister of Government Communications and Presidential Spokesperson, Felix Kwakye Ofosu dated Wednesday, April 8, 2026.
The Fiscal Council is aimed at reinforcing fiscal discipline, improving oversight, and enhancing sound decision-making in public financial management.
The nominees include Dr. Emmanuel Oteng Kumah as Chairperson, Prof. Patrick Opoku Asuming representing academia, and Leslie Dwight Mensah as a representative from a research think tank.
Also nominated are J. Kweku Bedu-Addo, a former public policy expert from the Ministry of Finance, and Dr. Henry Akpenamawu Kofi Wampah, a former public policy expert from the Bank of Ghana.
The Fiscal Council is expected to play a critical role in ensuring fiscal prudence, advising on economic policy, and strengthening transparency in the management of public finances.
The formation of the Council underscores the government’s commitment to maintaining strong financial governance structures as part of broader economic management efforts.
