Minister for Communication, Digital Technology and Innovations, Sam Nartey George, has reaffirmed his unwavering stance on Ghana’s controversial anti-LGBTQ+ legislation, expressing strong confidence that President John Dramani Mahama will assent to the bill once Parliament concludes its processes.

Speaking amid growing public debate in an interview monitored by TV3 journalist Joseph Owusu Worae, the Ningo-Prampram MP said he remains reassured by the President’s earlier position, insisting that work on the bill is steadily progressing.

“I’m confident and reassured in the words of President Mahama that when Parliament passes the bill, which we are actively working on, we will present it to him, and he will sign it,” he asserted.

Sam Nartey George also pushed back strongly against claims that his appointment as a minister has softened his long-held views, describing such assertions as inaccurate and misleading.

“For those who say I have changed my position, I introduced this bill as an MP when I was not a minister. If being a minister was meant to silence me, I would not have returned to Parliament as the lead sponsor of the bill,” he emphasized.

The outspoken lawmaker reiterated that his continued leadership in reintroducing the Proper Human Sexual Rights and Ghanaian Family Values Bill underscores his commitment to the cause, regardless of his position in government.

His remarks come at a time when scrutiny has intensified over the government’s direction on LGBTQ+ issues, with critics questioning whether key advocates have toned down their rhetoric since assuming office.
