About 10 supporters of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) in the Wenchi constituency of the Bono region have defected to the National Democratic Congress (NDC). The announcement was made on Saturday, October 19, 2024, at Nkonsia, just 49 days before the December 7 election.

This occurred during the NDC National Chairman Johnson Asiedu Nketia's campaign tour in the area. The defectors include branch executives, communicators, and other supporters of the NPP from communities like Wenchi and Nkonsia.

The defectors cited the Nana Addo-led government’s negligence in developing the area as the primary reason for their departure. They expressed dissatisfaction with the socio-economic direction of the current administration, stating that the youth's future cannot be secured under the NPP despite Wenchi being considered an NPP stronghold. They stated, “We have now located our roots, we don’t belong to the NPP.”

Johnson Asiedu Nketia welcomed them into the NDC, urging party members to accept the new defectors as their own. He also invited others willing to join the party, emphasizing that the NDC is open to all.

The NDC National Chairman encouraged the people to vote massively for parliamentary candidate Alhaji Harina Seidu and presidential candidate John Mahama to rescue Ghana from what he described as the mess created by the Nana Addo and Bawumia administration.
