Hussain Abdul Karim Labaani, a member of the New Patriotic Party in the Yendi constituency, has submitted his nomination forms to contest the 2024 parliamentary election as an independent candidate.

The aspiring MP expressed his dissatisfaction with how the party’s parliamentary primary was organised.

He was also not happy that the National Executive Committee imposed Alhaji Faruq Ali Mahama as the current MP on.

He claimed that the incumbent MP failed to deliver on his promises, and so he has decided to contest as an independent candidate so he will secure victory.

He has therefore appealed to constituents to vote massively for him so he will serve their interests.

“The people choose the leader, not the leader chooses himself,” Labaani emphasised, clarifying that his decision is not a rebellion against Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia but rather a call for democratic representation.

“The Member of Parliament for Yendi, who’s in the person of Alhaji Faruq Ali Mahama, was imposed on us, and for that matter, the rule of law does not order that.”

“For that matter, we have come out, especially me, to let them understand that it is the people that choose the leader, not the leader himself. I’m not against Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia.”
