Honor Our Music Legend with a State Burial . A Call to President Mahama to Celebrate the Legacy of Daddy Lumba

A Letter by Citizen Kofi Owusu (Host, Adekye Mu Nsem)

Dear His Excellency John Dramani Mahama,

With a heavy heart, I write to you not only as the Host of Adekye Mu Nsem on Ahotor 92.3 FM, but also as a citizen deeply moved by the passing of one of Ghana’s most cherished musical legends and the Charles Kwadwo Fosu, known across generations as Daddy Lumba.

At age 60, Daddy Lumba bowed out of this life, but not before leaving a rich legacy etched in the soul of this nation. His voice narrated the stories of our love, our struggles, our joy, and our growth as a people. For over three decades, his music transcended time and space, becoming the soundtrack of Ghanaian life across villages, towns, and cities.

Daddy Lumba was more than a musician in the he was an institution. Through his timeless music, he contributed immensely to Ghana’s creative economy, empowering countless producers, backing vocalists, instrumentalists, and event organizers. His concerts attracted both local and international audiences, promoting Ghanaian culture to the world. Few artists have had the generational influence that Lumba wielded with so much grace and consistency.

Mr. President, Daddy Lumba embodied the spirit of Ghana: bold, soulful, and unforgettable. In this light, I humbly appeal to your esteemed office, and to the good conscience of the state, to consider a fitting state burial in his honor. Such an act would not only immortalize his legacy but also send a powerful message that Ghana truly celebrates its cultural heroes and its not just in words, but in dignified action.

Let us come together as a nation fans, fellow musicians, institutions, and the state to bid farewell to our legend in a manner befitting his greatness.

May his soul rest in perfect peace, and may his music live forever.

Yours respectfully,

Kofi Owusu
