Two individuals have been injured following a clash between the Ghana Immigration Service (GIS) and residents of Shia, a border community in the Ho Municipality, over the Immigration Service’s handling of firearms.
According to an anonymous official from the Ghana Immigration Service, the dispute began on Thursday, November 14, when residents of Shia questioned the legality of GIS officers carrying firearms in the community. While the matter was initially addressed and resolved at the chief’s palace, tensions escalated when agitated youth confronted the officers and blocked roads, leading to a violent clash.
The two injured persons are currently receiving medical treatment, though their conditions remain unclear. In response to the incident, the Ghana Immigration Service has pledged to continue engaging in dialogue with the community to ensure lasting peace and prevent further conflicts. The situation is still being monitored as authorities work to restore calm in the area.
