Yakubu Abanga, the 3rd National Vice Chairman of the NDC have denied allegations linking them to a rogue anti-galamsey taskforce accused of extortion and harassment of small-scale miners across the country.

The Concerned Small Scale Miners Association of Ghana (CSSMAG) had alleged that an illegal taskforce operating in various mining communities was acting with the backing or influence of the two NDC executives.

According to the group, this alleged taskforce was active in areas such as Sekondi, Bekwai, Offinso, and Prestea, where armed individuals dressed in military gear reportedly invoked the names of Yamin and Abanga while intimidating miners and demanding money.

However, in separate in a press statement Abanga firmly refuted the allegations and urged national security authorities to arrest and prosecute any individual or group found impersonating them or using their names for unlawful purposes.

Hon. Abanga Yakubu Alhassan Denies Involvement in Alleged Illegal Anti-Galamsey Taskforce

The Vice Chairman of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), Hon. Abanga Yakubu Alhassan, has issued a strong rebuttal to claims made by the so-called Concerned Small-Scale Miners Association of Ghana (CSSMAG), which alleged that he and other public figures are connected to an illegal, parallel anti-galamsey taskforce operating in mining communities across the country.

In a statement to the media, Hon. Abanga emphatically denied having any knowledge of, involvement in, or connection to the said taskforce, and condemned the allegations as baseless and malicious.

“Let me place it on record, without ambiguity: I have absolutely no hand in, and I know nothing about these allegations. I challenge anyone who claims otherwise to be bold and point to me directly. If I have ever extorted money from any miner or seized any equipment, let them mention my name publicly,” he declared.

Hon. Abanga expressed deep concern about the attempt to associate his name with criminal operations and questioned the motives behind such unfounded claims.

“This is not just about politics—it is about protecting reputations that have been built over years of service and sacrifice. I will not sit back and allow anyone to jeopardize my name with falsehoods,” he said.

As a licensed small-scale miner himself, Hon. Abanga said he fully understands the challenges facing genuine miners and remains committed to promoting lawful, responsible, and transparent mining practices that benefit the Ghanaian economy.

He further clarified that neither he nor Hon. Joseph Yamin has ever authorized any group to carry out enforcement or operations in any mining community, and that anyone using their names is an impostor who must be arrested and prosecuted.

In exposing one of the glaring inconsistencies in the so-called CSSMAG’s own statement, it has come to light that the Mobile Money number 0244254231, listed as belonging to Andrew Abban, is in fact registered to Roland Agudogo. This mismatch, Hon. Abanga pointed out, reveals a clear act of impersonation and deceit—calculated to mislead the public and defame innocent individuals.

“Their intent is to tarnish my hard-earned reputation, and we condemn it outright,” he asserted.

Hon. Abanga also took the opportunity to reaffirm the core mission of the NDC under its Resetting Agenda. He emphasized that as a National Vice Chairman of the party, his focus—alongside that of the party—is to help reset the economy, which he described as having been severely mismanaged under the previous NPP government.

“Our focus is to restore hope, create meaningful jobs for the youth, and make Ghana a suitable place for all to live. These fake, sponsored articles and propaganda should be disregarded by the good people of Ghana,” he stated.

He concluded by assuring the public that no amount of falsehood will derail the party’s vision for a better Ghana, as the NDC remains focused on responsible leadership and national progress.
