A member of the Western Regional Youth wing of National Democratic Congress (NDC) Zambaga Rufai Saminu, has stated that the new administration of President John Dramani Mahama will assemble competent Ghanaians with the right pedigrees to serve in various capacities as Ministers of State.
According to him, unlike the previous administration where many square pegs were put in round holes for the satisfaction of the President Nana Addo Danquah Akufo-Addo, the current administration, he noted, will do due diligence before settling on individual Ghanaians who are ready and willing to serve the country
Speaking in an interview, the former TEIN President of Kings University College said President John Mahama in consultation with leadership of NDC, will build a formidable government through the appointment of quality Ministers who are capable of occupying the right positions to serve mother Ghana.
"In the past, it was basically about putting square pegs in round holes. A number of the appointees were not fit to occupy the positions they had. Whilst some of them were younger than the positions offered them, others were simply incompetent. Unfortunately, nobody could correct the President because, he was not a listening President and he also failed to reshuffle non-performing Ministers and other heads of departments and agencies"
For President John Dramani Mahama, the NDC branch organiser said, his experience will guide him to take his time, select quality materials thus galaxy of stars to run the affairs of the country.
Aside competence, President John Mahama, Zambaga Rufai Saminu underscores, will also take into account regional balance, qualifications, experience and expertise of the appointees.
" A government that will be active, proactive, and productive ought to be led by serious people. Therefore, the President will definitely put together the right team to function and deliver to the satisfaction of Ghanaians" he remarked.
For instance, the list of appointees delivered so far, he said provides credible indications that indeed the President will make Ghana proud.
President Mahama appointed Julius Debrah as his Chief of Staff alongside other key appointments to the Office of the President.
They include Executive Secretary to the President Dr. Callistus Mahama, Head of Interim Security Taskforce Prosper Douglas Bani, Senior Presidential Advisor, Governmental Affairs Dr. Valerie Sawyerr, Presidential Advisor Responsible for 24-hour Economy and Accelerated Export Development Augustus Goosie Tanoh, Legal Counsel to the President Marietta Agyeiwaa Brew, Acting Spokesperson to the President, Felix Kwakye Ofosu.
President John Dramani Mahama on Thursday also nominated three personalities for vetting as the first batch of his ministers. The nominees are, Dr. Cassiel Ato Baah Forson as the Minister for Finance Designate, who brings a wealth of experience in public finance, macroeconomics, and fiscal policy.
Mr. John Abdulai Jinapor as the Minister for Energy Designate, with expertise in energy economics and finance, Dr. Dominic Akuritinga Ayine, as the Attorney-General and Minister for Justice Designate, a distinguished lawyer with over 30 years of experience.
Considering the pedigrees of the names mentioned above, he said one can only imagine the galaxy of stars being assembled by the President.
Ghana, he expressed regret has lost eight (8) solid years to wrong leadership, and for the new administration to reset the country, the appointees must be topnotch and excellent in offering results. Anything short of that, the experienced journalist observed will cost the President, the government and the NDC party"
Expressing confidence in the new government, the former Western Regional Secretary of Ghana Journalists Association (GJA) said President John Mahama has been there before and that his experience will guide him to deliver effectively and efficiently.
"He knows the hot and cold of governance. He knows the harrow and ploug of economic management
He knows the dangers associated with certain decisions. He knows when to hit when the iron is hot, therefore, he will live above reproach and establish his authority over all the decisions that matter to the Ghanaian".
He said he feels proud that indeed Ghana has assumed economic recovery and social cohesion with an interesting milestone of bringing back into office the most vilified, and yet competent leader ever to have served humanity with humility, sincerity and honesty.
The current administration, he said is not just going to be another regime. "Trust me, this will be the most talked about legacy regime in history " he concluded.
