In a passionate appeal to President John Mahama, the Member of Parliament for North Dayi, Hon. Joycelyn Tetteh, has made a strong case, rationalizing why more appointments from the Volta are justified.
Admittedly, she praised all regions of Ghana for the NDC's success in the 2024 elections, underscoring the enormity of the Volta region's contributions as the party's stronghold.
She made these observations in a Zoom interview on PM Express on Joy News on Tuesday, January 21, 2025. She opined, "I think we deserve more than three. We have 18 seats; we were able to snatch the NPP seat to our side with only two women emerging out of the 18," she stated.
She was of the view that, considering the challenging political atmosphere, especially with regard to women, "I think the president wouldn't overlook that, also having only 2 out of 18 MPs from the Volta region who are women. The resources, we never had, but we worked hard to maintain our seats.
"It wouldn't be bad if the president increased the figures of appointments from the party's stronghold, but we leave that to the appointing authority", she stated.
Madam Tetteh was quick to add that the president was under no compulsion to make more appointments from the Volta Region. "It's a decision he alone must make," the MP stressed.
Finally, when asked if she personally would avail her services to the government if called upon, the North Dayi MP shared that having served as an opposition MP for eight years, it stands to reason to serve in government if found worthy. 'I've availed myself to serve my people as an opposition MP for eight years.' If President Mahama feels that Jocelyn deserves a space around the table in his government, why not? I am ready to serve", she concluded.
