The Complementary Education Agency, Central Region (CEA-Central), is committed to significantly improving literacy and lifelong learning opportunities across Ghana through renewed programmes and strategic interventions. Established under the CEA Act, 2020 (Act 1055), the Agency is mandated to oversee and promote quality Complementary Education in Ghana, providing alternative learning pathways for school dropouts and disadvantaged learners from basic through to tertiary levels.

CEA-Central’s core functions include providing functional basic literacy education for disadvantaged groups and creating complementary education structures that support Occupational Skill Development. As part of this mandate, the Agency recently trained 63 participants in beginner-level fascinator-making skills in collaboration with a union of dressmakers and hairdressers in the Hemang District. This training forms part of the Agency’s Occupational Skill Development initiative aimed at empowering learners with practical, income-generating skills.

CEA-Central continues to strengthen its mandate by promoting inclusive and equitable access to education through strategic collaborations. One key example is the allocation of a dedicated classroom facility to support learners under the 2026 Remedial Education Programme and TVET-related interventions, aimed at improving learners’ capacity to further their education and obtain relevant certifications.

Through its public communication platforms, including Facebook, CEA shares regular updates on its activities, celebrates staff achievements, announces upcoming projects, and highlights key milestones. The Agency also engages with partner institutions such as the Ministry of Education, Ghana, and continues to support national initiatives, including training workshops for Master Trainers in preparation for the implementation of the Complementary Basic Education Programme Cycle Ten.

Some Notable Activities Of CEA-Central Include:

• Conducting monitoring and supervision exercises across districts, municipalities, and metropolitan areas to ensure effective programme delivery.

• Launching the Run Mission Assemblies Learning Centre Project to empower individuals through literacy and skills training.

• Partnering with institutions to promote education and support out-of-school children.

• Providing learning materials to institutions such as the Ghana Prison Service to help improve literacy levels among learners.
