Cape Coast – In a significant push to support education and enhance public safety, the Member of Parliament for Cape Coast North, Dr. Kwamena Minta Nyarku, has provided 170 chopboxes to first-year senior high school students and distributed 150 streetlights to Assembly Members across the constituency.

The donation ceremony, held on Tuesday, October 7, 2025, at the Pedu Basic School, saw newly admitted students and their parents gather to receive the essential school supplies.
This initiative is part of Dr. Nyarku's long-standing commitment to community development, a pledge that began during his first term. Originally providing financial support to students, the MP this year opted for a more tangible form of aid.
"This year, I decided to provide chopboxes as my personal contribution towards the educational development of my constituents," Dr. Nyarku stated. He described the gifts as a "token to cushion parents in their efforts to educate their children," and emphasized the region's academic reputation. "Cape Coast is known as the cradle of education in Ghana, and our children cannot be left behind."
Addressing the students directly, the MP counseled discipline and focus. "To make your parents and Cape Coast proud, you must abide by school rules and shun misconduct," he advised, warning against social vices. He encapsulated his mission succinctly: "Every student supported is a future secured, and every light installed is security assured."
"Operation Light Up Cape Coast North" Intensifies

The second part of the donation, 150 streetlights, continues Dr. Nyarku's "Operation Light Up Cape Coast North" project from his first term. He emphasized that public safety is foundational to a vibrant community.
"A well-lit community is a prerequisite for a functional society," Dr. Nyarku noted. "Thieves and other miscreants lurk in the dark to cause harm. Our goal is to improve illumination across all electoral areas to enhance security."
Assembly Members who received the lights expressed gratitude for the MP's continued involvement and pledged their support for the installation efforts.
Ongoing Community Support Tour
The education and security donations are part of a broader "thank-you" tour by the MP. Recent activities include:
· A donation of GOIL fuel coupons worth Gh¢5,000 and an additional Gh¢2,000 cash to the Abura taxi station welfare fund.
· A contribution of Gh¢2,000 to Abura Market women's welfare fund, plus a pledge of 100 bags of cement, and a trip of sand and stones to construct pavements for easier market access.
As an academic, Dr. Nyarku has a consistent record of educational support. While the lighting project has already led to noticeable security improvements, the MP continues to appeal to the central government to complement these local efforts for even greater constituency-wide impact.
