In a bid to help religious adherents appreciate what salvation is, Mrs. Evelyn Warlson Annan, founder of the Asaase Yaa Awakening Center (AYAC), has provided some insightful dimensions into the concept of salvation.
She made these remarks in an interview on Nyansa TV's YouTube channel on Sunday, 9th February, 2025, setting the tone by explaining that there is no universal acceptance of the concept, as people are made to believe, highlighting that different religious adherents have different understandings of what salvation is.
She emphasised that the meaning of salvation varies among the Greeks, the English, French, and Israelis. Indeed, while the Greek concept of salvation was created, later deified, and achieved on an individual basis, that of the Jewish people is collectively achieved, not on an individual level.
"When a Jew says they're waiting for their salvation, they are waiting for a collective experience, not an individual one, stressed Madam Warlson Annan.
Conversely, the Christian philosophy of salvation is a belief exercised in one person, who is seen as the saviour; upon a believer's confession to that individual, that person is presumed saved. "Without confessing to Jesus Christ, you cannot be saved; this is the Christian philosophy", she explained.
Drawing on the Islamic narrative, she averred that in Islam, salvation is devotion to God, underscoring that anything done in the name of that God will earn one a place in the most comfortable place imaginable, where one can live and reign as one pleases. However, the Indian perspective of salvation deals with consciousness, thus a state of awareness where one realises who they truly are. Nonetheless, according to the Indians, one can achieve salvation by being reborn to live that salvation experience.
The above notwithstanding, the AYAC founder posited that the concept of salvation precedes Jesus Christ's birth. "The concept of salvation was born in Egypt long before Jesus was born", she emphasised.
As society evolves with its attendant acculturation and assimilation of different philosophies, the concept of salvation has also evolved. Indeed, among the Christian faith, salvation means different things to different Christian sects under the Christian religion.
"Jesus Christ came to preach consciousness, not what is being preached to congregants today. Jesus was more of an awakening person than a religious person. He tried to make humanity find their place in God", she intimated.
