Craftsmanship and skills development took center stage over the weekend as the Cape Coast Metropolitan Assembly (CCMA) benefited from the government’s National Apprenticeship Programme aimed at tackling youth unemployment and promoting sustainable livelihoods.

The initiative, spearheaded by the National Youth Authority in collaboration with the Youth Employment Agency and the Cape Coast Metropolitan Assembly, saw the presentation of tools and essential equipment to apprentices and master craftspersons at the CCMA Assembly Hall.
The colourful and well-attended ceremony brought together key stakeholders and beneficiaries, underscoring the government’s commitment to empowering young people through practical, hands-on vocational training. Among the dignitaries present were the Chief Executive Officer of the National Youth Authority, Osman Ayariga; the Member of Parliament for Cape Coast North, Kwamena Minta Nyarku; the Mayor of Cape Coast, George Justice Arthur; and the Central Regional Coordinator for the Programme, Ebenezer Abeiku Essien.
In his address, the Mayor of Cape Coast commended the National Apprenticeship Programme for bringing direct relief to young artisans within the metropolis. He emphasized that the initiative would not only reduce unemployment but also strengthen small-scale enterprises and promote economic independence among the youth.
He, however, issued a stern warning to beneficiaries, stressing that the tools and equipment distributed are meant solely for productive use.
“The items received and distributed to beneficiaries are not to be sold. Anyone found selling any of the items will be arrested and made to face the law,” he cautioned.

The Member of Parliament for Cape Coast North reiterated Parliament’s commitment to supporting youth-centered initiatives and urged beneficiaries to remain focused and disciplined in their respective trades.
The National Apprenticeship Programme forms part of broader national efforts to promote technical and vocational education and training (TVET) as a strategic pathway to job creation and sustainable development.
Beneficiaries expressed appreciation to the implementing agencies, describing the intervention as timely and impactful in helping them expand their skills and businesses.
Stakeholders remain optimistic that continued investment in vocational training will accelerate local economic growth and create lasting opportunities for the youth of Cape Coast and Ghana as a whole.
