The recent outbreak of cholera in Cape Coast has once again drawn attention to the poor state of public toilet facilities in the area.

A visit by our news team to one of the facilities revealed disturbing conditions. The absence of an attendant has created a free-for-all situation, where users access the toilet without paying the required fee. Even more worrying is the fact that the structure lacks doors, encouraging open defecation at the entrance of the facility.
Residents who spoke to our team expressed concern over the insanitary state of the premises, blaming the situation on lack of supervision and routine maintenance.
The Ward Coordinator of the Silent Brotherhood, Mr. Prince Apprey, has acknowledged the problem. He said plans are underway to clean the facility, install a gate, and ensure it is locked at night to prevent further abuse and deterioration.
He gave the assurance that steps would be taken to address the concerns raised, as part of efforts to improve sanitation and help contain the spread of cholera
