Highlife singer Kofi Nti has made a shocking revelation about a past poisoning incident involving legendary Ghanaian musician Daddy Lumba, shedding new light on a story that has circulated in the industry for years.
During an interview with Nana Romeo on Okay FM, Kofi Nti clarified long-standing rumours that linked one Akosua Serwaa to Lumba’s alleged poisoning. According to him, the claims are false, and the truth is entirely different from what many have believed.
Kofi Nti explained that the topic resurfaced during an event he attended with Daddy Lumba, where celebrated dancehall artiste Samini approached him to ask whether it was true that Akosua Serwaa had poisoned the highlife legend. He immediately dismissed the rumour, stating emphatically that such news is not true. This prompted him to share the real story behind the frightening incident.
According to Kofi Nti, Daddy Lumba personally narrated the incident to him during a private conversation years ago. Lumba revealed that he was poisoned at a party, not by a woman, but allegedly by friends he trusted. He told him he attended a gathering with some friends. At a point, he stepped away briefly, leaving his drink behind. When he returned, he continued drinking without suspecting anything.
However, things changed when he got home that night. He suddenly felt extremely uncomfortable, and the situation worsened quickly as he began vomiting blood. The incident was not only real but was also witnessed firsthand by Odo Broni, a person close to Lumba who was present at the time.
Kofi Nti added that Daddy Lumba has since given him and others around him one crucial piece of advice, never leave your drink with friends for any reason. According to him, Lumba believes that momentary trust cost him dearly, and he hopes the younger generation of musicians will be vigilant and protect themselves in social situations.
