
Peter Rufai, a legendary goalkeeper and 1994 Africa Cup of Nations champion, has passed away at 61. His death was confirmed by the Super Eagles' official social media handle, which paid tribute to his legacy and contributions to Nigerian football.

Born on August 24, 1963, in Lagos State, Rufai rose to prominence with his exceptional goalkeeping skills, earning him the nickname "Dodo Mayana". He began his football journey with Stationery Stores and Femo Scorpions before moving to the Benin Republic to play for AS Dragons FC de l’Ouémé.
Rufai earned 65 caps for the Super Eagles, represented Nigeria at two FIFA World Cups, played a pivotal role in Nigeria's 1994 Africa Cup of Nations triumph, and was part of the team that qualified for Nigeria's first-ever FIFA World Cup in 1994.
Rufai's club career took him to several European leagues, including stints in Belgium, Netherlands, Spain, and Portugal.
Rufai founded the Star Rufai Soccer Academy in Lagos, which produced talents for both local and international clubs. He also worked as a football analyst, mentor, and motivational speaker.
