“Four Years Is Just a Day” – Speaker Bagbin Cautions New MP Ewurabena Aubynn During Swearing-In
Speaker of Parliament, Rt. Hon. Alban Sumana Kingsford Bagbin, has offered a stern yet encouraging message to the newly sworn-in Member of Parliament for Ablekuma North, Ewurabena Aubynn, urging her to stay grounded and dedicated to her new role.
Speaking during her official swearing in on Tuesday, July 22, 2025, the Speaker emphasized that political office is fleeting, and that the people who elect leaders will ultimately judge them based on their service not popularity or party affiliation.
“Four years is just a day. You will go back to them, and they will assess you this time based on your performance. So please don’t be misled by other people,” Bagbin stated.
He advised the first-time MP to commit herself to continuous learning, stressing the importance of not just reading the Constitution and Standing Orders, but also paying attention to the contributions of fellow parliamentarians.
The Speaker further encouraged her to adopt a humble and attentive posture, one that prioritizes the needs and voices of her constituents above all else.
Ewurabena Aubynn's swearing in comes after her victory in a recent by-election held to fill the Ablekuma North seat. Her entry into Parliament adds a fresh voice to the legislative process, and her performance over the next four years will be closely watched.
